Governor Gary Herbert has asked the Utah Department of Public Safety to plan and facilitate a summit to bring together all emergency responders within the State of Utah at a conference to discuss emergency response, better working relationships between different functions, and emergency preparedness.
Commissioner Davenport has asked that two other Department of Public Safety sponsored conferences be combined with this conference; The Hazardous Materials Conference and the Public Officials Conference, will join the Governor's Public Safety Summit for one large, annual conference to be held May 18, 19 and 20, 2010 at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center. Hazardous Materials Tech Refresher will occur throughout the week to include Fri., May 21st.
We anticipate over 500 participants from around the state to attend this conference. The summit will feature three days of outstanding presentations and workshops on this year's theme: Preparedness for the Future.
Two nationally known speakers have already confirmed to speak this year; Dr. Igor Shafhid who is an expert on counter terrorism and Dr. Jack Enter, who teaches skills to help individuals become more effective in their work and personal lives.
Other topics that have been scheduled are; Utah's Critical Infrastructure, Violence in Schools, H1N1, Civil Support Training, Juvenile Fire Intervention, Preparing our Families prior to an Event, so we can Respond, Urban Search and Rescue, Responding to Chemical Suicides, just to name a few.
The cost of the summit is $150 per person. This includes three breakfasts, three lunches and one evening social and breaks all three days. A block of rooms have been reserved at the Ogden Marriott Hotel at the state per diem rate of $70 per night have been set aside.
