Highway Safety - Programs

ALCOHOL

  • E.A.S.Y. - The E.A.S.Y. program is an innovative and focused approach which aims to use a total community mobilization to reduce underage drinking in Utah.
  • Impaired Driving - Through prevention, education and enforcement efforts, the alcohol program seeks to sustain Utah's reduced trend in alcohol-related fatality and serious injury rate.
  • Youth Alcohol - Law enforcement task forces and community organizations target underage drinking in comprehensive and innovative manners.

OCCUPANT PROTECTION

  • Seatbelts - This program coordinates with state and local programs conducting outreach and educational efforts aimed toward increasing the use of seatbelts, air bags and child safety seats.
  • Child Passenger Safety - This program helps protect Utah's youngest motor vehicle passengers by funding car seat fitting and inspection stations, conducting training, supporting educational campaigns and other efforts aimed at increasing the proper and consistent use of car seats.
  • Click It or Ticket - Occupant protection has been one of the top traffic-related priorities across the nation, as well as in Utah. The state's Click It or Ticket program runs concurrently with the national campaign, maximizing public awareness of the benefits of buckling up.

PEDESTRIANS & BICYCLES

  • Pedestrian Safety - Through public information and education efforts this program seeks to reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities by encouraging safe walking behaviors.
  • Bicycle Safety - This program provides education and resources to promote¬†bicycle safety skills as well as encourage vehicles to share the road with bicyclists.

ADDITIONAL TOPICS

  • Motorcycle Safety - This program focuses on reducing the rising rate of motorcycle crashes resulting in injuries and fatalities by increasing the awareness of both motorists and motorcyclists.
  • Drowsy Driving - Through the Sleep Smart. Drive Smart. campaign, this program works to educate drivers about the hazards of driving sleepy.
  • Speeding - Speeding is one of the most prevalent factors contributing to traffic crashes. This program focuses on educating drivers of the consequences of speeding and reducing speeding-related injuries and crashes.
  • Teen Driving - Utah teen drivers represent a small percent of all licensed drivers, but they cause more than three times as many crashes as the average driver. This program targets and educates teen drivers.
