POST - Instructor Development
This class is required for officers who want to instruct POST sponsored basic training or in-service classes. The Instructor Development course will provide the peace officer instructor with a working knowledge of how to develop performance objectives, write lesson plans, utilize proper teaching methods, etc.
Officers who successfully complete the Instructor Development course will be recognized as POST certified instructors.
This course is limited to 28 students, and must have a minimum of 20.
A written and skills based test will be administered where the officer needs to achieve 70% or greater to pass.
This course is one of the three, POST required courses for the Mid-Management Certificate.
- Attention: Due to the demand for this course, a one week cancellation is required, if you are registered and fail to cancel at least one week (7 days) prior to the first day of class you will not be considered for this training for the next class offered. This is to give consideration to those that are on a wait list and to also fill the current class.
- This class is not a PowerPoint class, however, it is recomended that students bring a laptop computer to the training.
- Important: In an effort to save resources we have gone paperless. This will require that you print your own course materials and have them with you on the first day of class. When you register for the class we will provide the attachment or link for you to print materials. Please provide your email address so that we can send you the attachment. We will not print this material for you on the first day of class. Please anticipate this for all future POST classes. Thank you for your assitance in our effort to conserve.
To apply for the course, candidates should have Agency Administrator or Training Coordinator register them for the training through the POST Portal at www.post.utah.gov

Dress code for attending POST classes is a neat, clean, and professional appearance. Slacks, shirts with collars, and/or department uniform can be worn. No shorts, cut-offs, open toe shoes, sweats, tank tops, or t-shirts are permitted.
